Cullinan Diamond Mine: Old, but definitely not cold!

The Cullinan Diamond Mine (previously known as the Premier Diamond Mine) was established way back in 1905, and it appears that some people are under the impression that it is past its former glory. Not so! As the link to the heading will show, the Mine is alive and well, and still producing some of the most notable diamonds in the world. On 24 September 2009, a 507 carat white diamond of exceptional colour and clarity was recovered at this world-famous diamond mine, making it the 19th largest exceptional diamond to be recovered worldwide. The diamond, named the 'Cullinan Heritage', was sold earlier this year to a Honk Kong jewellery firm for R270 Million. The diamond was recovered along with 3 other exceptional diamonds, one a 168 carat diamond, and two diamonds of 58 and 53 carats respectively, which also fetched handsome prices on the international market. These spectacular findings follow the take over of the Mine from De Beers by Petra Diamonds, capital investment and development in excess of R100 Million over the past 18 months, and the recovery of a fancy vivid blue diamond in 2008. The blue diamond was named the 'Star of Josephine' by its buyer.

So girls, Cullinan remains THE home of a girl's best friend (and apparently now a man's as well)! Why not visit Cullinan, book an underground tour (one of the few operational mines internationally to allow such tours), select your gem, visit my salon for a pamper session, enjoy a delicious meal at one of our restaurants .... The possibilities are endless!

Mountain Bike Races

Well, if you needed any convincing that Cullinan is becoming increasingly popular as a venue for special events, the MTN Cullinan Ultra Marathon held on 28 August 2010 must certainly go a long way towards doing just that. And it is not the only mountain bike race to have been staged locally. In 2009, the Nissan Diamond Rush in the MTB Series achieved such success and rave reviews that the event was again held in July 2010. Do you want YOUR event (big or small) to be SPECIAL? Consider Cullinan as your venue! Feel free to contact us for more information. And by the way, I have just opened another new business: The Station Master's Cabin @CullinanJunction - self-catering accommodation in an excellent setting and with a unique character. More information to follow soon...

A day out with your partner/friend

Cullinan is a popular destination for breakfast runs. Equally so, it is a popular destination for golfers. And for steam train enthusiasts. So, ladies, this is your opportunity to be spoilt. Convince the man in your life to do the breakfast run on a Saturday ... or a Monday, a Wednesday, whatever day (except Sunday, at this stage ...). Enjoy a relaxing and rejuvenating body and beauty treat, while he is exploring the town and meeting the local hospitality fraternity. Or grant him a day of 'freedom' on the golf course, while you get yourself well and truly pampered. Or perhaps just leave him at home (or work) and bring your lady friend along. The possibilities are endless ... You have any suggestions for us on how you would like your pamper session structured?

Cullifest

At Cullinan, dining, wining, and partying are high on the agenda. After all, a happy body is home to a happy soul (or something in that vein). We also like to involve the whole family, and the annual Cullifest is just such an event: a true family festival. This year, the fest took place from 30 April 2010 to 1 May 2010. To make the experience even more unique and full of fun, many visitors boarded a steam train in Pretoria and picniced all the way to Cullinan. For more details, follow the link by clicking on the heading, and proceed to the Cullifest page. Also visit 'Steam train excursions' under 'Interesting links' and the 'About us' page. Be sure to pop in at my salon to meet and to find out how you can make your beauty treatments and special celebrations more interesting, enjoyful and special (or just to help you recover from all the festivities). Steam train day trips from the Rand are also on the agenda, and we are expecting the first trip to take place towards the end of August 2010 (see 'Reefsteamers' under 'Interesting links').

Groot Gat Godin

Laat weet my asseblief wat jy hiervan dink ...
